PENGARUH MEDIA GAMBAR TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN MENULIS NARASI SISWA KELAS IV MIN 4 LABUHANBATU

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of picture media on the narrative writing skills of fourth-grade students at MIN 4 Labuhanbatu. This research was motivated by the low narrative writing ability of students, which was indicated by difficulties in developing ideas, organizing story plots, selecting appropriate vocabulary, and using correct spelling and punctuation. The study employed a quantitative approach using an experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 30 fourth-grade students selected through a total sampling technique. Data collection techniques included tests, observation, and documentation. The research instrument was a narrative writing test that had been validated and tested for reliability using content validity and Cronbach’s Alpha. Data analysis techniques included normality testing, homogeneity testing, and hypothesis testing using a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the average students’ narrative writing score increased from 63.40 in the pretest to 84.27 in the posttest. The results of the paired sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the research hypothesis was accepted. The findings revealed that picture media effectively improved students’ narrative writing skills, particularly in developing story ideas, organizing plot structures, using vocabulary, and applying proper spelling and punctuation. Therefore, picture media can be used as an effective instructional medium to improve narrative writing skills among elementary school students, especially in Islamic elementary schools.
